Where Minnesota differs from the federal baseline
- Minnesota's 30 school day evaluation window is about half the federal 60 calendar days.
- Transition planning begins by grade 9 or age 14, whichever comes first (Minn. Stat. § 125A.08).
- Parents may request a conciliation conference, a Minnesota-specific dispute step, after a proposed action.
- For most proposals other than initial evaluation and initial placement, the district may proceed if the parent does not object within 14 calendar days of notice.
